Screening: Found

Eyebeam is pleased to announce Found, the first program in a new screening series curated from our archives, organized around themes that have united artists working here over our 15 year history. Found compiles four films made by Eyebeam artists working with found and appropriated images, a mainstay of video art in the 21st century and an outgrowth of Eyebeam’s philosophy of free and open culture. The 50-minute program includes short works by Fred Wilson, Christian Marclay, Rashaad Newsome and Jacob Ciocci. The program will premier on Wednesday, April 25th with a free public screening at 8:30 pm. Beginning on April 26 it will be screened between 12 noon and 6 pm in our theater space at 540 W. 21 St.. Art Hack Weekend: What We Made + Winners!

Excited to announce the end of a truly exciting Art Hack Weekend: Starting with a BBQ meet and greet, growing into a 2-day design and prototype party with 50 makers in attendance, and finishing with a grand celebration, project presentations, and awards. Two winning projects were selected by a jury including Creators Project’s Julia Kaganskiy (Global Editor), and Ciel Hunter (Creative Director), Eybeam’s Amanda McDonald Crowley (Executive Director), MoMA’s Kate Carmody (Curatorial Assistant, Department of Architecture & Design), and artists Taeyoon Choi (Eyebeam Fellow) and Rashaad Newsome (Eyebeam Alum).

Eyebeam alum in Greater NY - Opening at PS1, Sunday May 23

An Atlas of Radical Cartography will be included in this year's Greater New York exhibition at PS1. An Atlas, a collection of 10 maps and 10 essays, is edited by Lize Mogel and Alexis Bhagat and includes maps by Eyebeam alums Trevor Paglen and Brooke Singer as well as the collective Institute for Applied Autonomy. The Opening Day Celebration for Greater New York is Sunday, May 23 from 12-6PM. Greater New York, the third iteration of the quinquennial exhibition organized by MoMA PS1 and MOMA, showcasing some 68 artists, including former Eyebeam resident Rashaad Newsome, and collectives living and working in the metropolitan New York area, will open at MoMA PS1 on May 23 and run through October 18, 2010.

Rashaad Newsome in 2010 Whitney Biennial

2009 Eyebeam Resident Rashaad Newsome is included in the 2010 Whitney Biennial, February 25 - May 30, 2010; and will be presenting a performance of FIVE in the Whitney Lobby on Friday March 19, 2010, developed during his Eyebeam residency.
