Project Summary

The Real Costs is a Firefox web browser plug-in that inserts CO2 emissions data into airplane travel e-commerce websites such as Orbitz.com, United.com, Delta.com, and so on. Like the nutritional information labeling included on food packaging, this plug-in provides emissions information that is otherwise excluded from travel websites.

The Yes Men

Art has always been a transformative reflection of reality and a moment in time. It is 2010. The screen is the window and the web is the tool to experience and engage in the world. Google, Wikipedia, Facebook, Twitter, Chatroulette, YouTube, Second Life and ebay are not virtual, they are real.

Celebrate the launch of Sabine Seymour's new book Functional Aesthetics at Eyebeam. Functional Aesthetics, the sequel to Seymour’s highly acclaimed book Fashionable Technology (Springer 2008), explores state-of-the-art artistic and design examples with a focus on their aesthetic and functional aspects. Chapters such as Context as Prerequisite, Body Sculpture, or Transparent Sustainability provide in-depth studies of visionary projects between the poles of fashion, design, technology, and sciences, which could stimulate new developments in the blossoming field of Fashionable Technology. The book also includes relevant information on DIY resources, publications, inspirations, and much more.

The Bennington College Library asked me (and others) to put together a voluntary reading list for their students. This is what I came up with.

What is Trespass? A beautiful new book of “Uncommissioned Urban Art” compiled by the folks from Wooster Collective. I will be at the Taschen Books Store on Wednesday night signing copies. If you are in NY, please do come by. If you know anyone that would be interested, please pass it on.

With an introduction by Banksy, Trespass features over 300 pages of photographs and texts by Carlo McCormick, Tony Serra, Anne Pasternak and Wooster Collective. Edited by Ethel Seno, the book is organized by theme, not chronologically or by artist. Chapters include: Conquest of Space, Public Memory/Private Secrets, and Magical Thinking.
