I just put up an installation of work at Eyebeam for Studio Visits. This is work I have been producing over the last 6 months. The work is primarily old found books cut with the laser cutter, as well as some laser cut drawings.

Come to the Changing Labor Value panel at the New School today, Tuesday  at 5:30pm. Victoria Scott and I will be showing a portion of the No Matter — a fly-through video in the reception beforehand. I’ll be there in person!

Since 1992 the San Francisco Arts Commission has been enlisting local artists to create original posters for the kiosks along Market Street between Van Ness Avenue and the Embarcadero. The Art on Market Street Kiosk Poster Series provides round-the-clock access to contemporary art for thousands of pedestrians. The artists, who work in a variety of media to reflect urban life, have included such well-known SF artists as Seyed Alavi, Megan Wilson, Kara Maria, Katherine Aoki, Amanda Hughen, Owen Smith, Jason Jagel, and Mark Brest van Kempen. The Bedford exhibition pays homage to this successful and model public art project by featuring thirty of the original 6ft by 4ft posters.

Camera/Chimera is a series of photographs, each by a different artist. The artists are asked to replicate the previous artist’s photograph. The result is a visual game of “Telephone” in which the image slowly (and sometimes abruptly) mutates through the process of recreation.

The New York Times Special Edition received an Award of Distinction at the 2009 Prix Ars Electronica. I will have more images, video, and details here soon. In the meantime…

S.A.S.E. uses the idea of the self addressed stamped envelope as its foundation (a method of distribution within the postal mail system that is always initiated by the one who wants to receive the information).

This method of distribution was (futilely) translated into a digital communication system, e-mail.

Eleven people were asked to organize an exhibition of images that would be contained within the space of an e-mail.

Ten e-mail exhibitions were created (each includes a selection of images, a statement, and a works list).

All the images were found online - either from web-sites or in e-mails.

Brooklyn is Watching (BiW) hosts a sim in Second Life which is a wonderful curatorial project that invites SL artists to create artwork on their space. The resulting creations range in quality and are subject to commentary by a weekly podcast by several commentators. I’ve been a guest podcaster a few times, participating in a production of the absurd: a radio podcast commentary of an entirely visual environment that most people don’t understand.
