It’s the end of the summer when new students begin wandering around my neighborhood congregating around coffee shops, I’m busy working on class syllabus’s and will be teaching at the Pratt Institute this fall.

We just launched Radio Kaikukukatu 92,2 FM in Helsinki. We’re broadcasting from the top of KuvA / Finnish Acadamy of Fine Arts. Live radio is broadcasting now and MFA final projects broadcast tomorrow (11/29/12) at 2pm. Helsinki Tune In!

This is part of a class I’m teaching at KUVA called Wandering Methodologies that explores various forms of public engagement on the airwaves, online and in public.

I’m giving a presentation at The Rhode Island School of Design this Friday November 9th at 6:30pm, CIT 103, in Providence RI.
I’ll be talk about some previous work and also talking about my on going film project called The Spice Trade Expedition. I’ll be showing some of the new footage from the trip.

Here’s a Deutsche Welle Television show about a project I did in 2009 called the Urban Prospector. The show also includes a great project by Andrea Polli, and Blast Theory. Urban Prospector starts at 1:57.

Two projects of mine, All-Salt and Spice Trade Expedition, are part of the Surface Tension exhibition at Eyebeam curated by Science Gallery at Trinity College, Dublin.

Its a great exhibition and will be running from May 30th until August 12th. Here’s a nice write up that mentions All-Salt in the NY Times.

Here’s a new interview with Morgan Levy and myself on our project, Alviso’s Medicinal All-Salt. Our interview is about 10 minutes long and goes into depth about some aspects of the project that we’ve never talked about before. We’re about 30 minutes into the show, or you can listen to the whole episode which has three other great stories about hookworms, DDT, and the arctic.

Coke BikeThis is a prototype for an electric generator to provide light. It is designed to turn benzoylmethylecgonine (cocaine) into electrical power using humans as a conduit. Its is a Rube Goldberg type machine where the input is a serotonin–norepinephrine–dopamine reuptake inhibitor (SNDRI) which is then processed by a human body and converted into energy. This energy is then applied to a crankset which transfers the energy into rotations of an induction motor. This generates 12 volts of power that passes through and DC to AC inverter converting it to alternating current. This AC current powers a fluorescent work light that enables the process to be repeated.

ReMarshing is a project by Myriel Millicevic and Jon Cohrs
It was created at Timelab in Ghent Belgium.

Belgium and the Netherlands have a long history of slowly draining the wetlands on which it is founded. ReMarshing is a processes of bring the land back to its previous state while also cleaning the water of its toxins by planting remediation plants within the wetland to remove the metals and other toxins.

We created a wetland water wheel that is powered by the wind. The windwheel spins and powers a water wheel that dumps canal water back on to the land. The water floads the land attempting to recreate wetlands. In front of the wetland waterwheel we planted remediation plants such as poplar, rap seed, willow, and other grasses.

The GhostCoder is an encryption utility, design for the Sonic Weapons Research Collective AUDiNT used to embed sound files or spoken text files within flac music files using spectral analysis to encode the research beyond the listeners hearing range. This information piggybacks on top of popular music files and torrents without being noticed, thus creating a networked distribution as an archival method of important information. The information or the torrent stream can then be decoded with the GhostCoder to yield the embedded information.
