Carolina Vales (b1982) lives and works in Mexico City. A graduate in Architecture from the Universidad Iberoamericana in 2007, Mexico City, she has participated on urban projects for the Venice Bienal, the Sao Paulo Bienal and a Holcims Awards Foundation competition and worked with De Yturbe Arquitectos for urban design projects. She is currently living in New York where she is working with Nick Hornby on a series of new sculptures and architectural pavilions considering the intersection of art and design: sculpture, furniture, interior and urban design.

Open Prototyping

Eyebeam presents Open Prototyping, an environment designed to share the ongoing research and production of its fellows and residents. The main exhibition space will operate as a platform for public engagement through workshops, presentations, demonstrations, and informal daily interactions. Like the recent X-Lab program, Open Prototyping fosters an experimental approach that embraces tinkering, critical dialogue, user testing, and the real-time presentation of creative research.

Announcing 2011 Fellows and Winter/Spring Residents

Eyebeam is pleased to announce the recipients of its Winter/Spring Residencies and 2011 Fellowships. These 12 artists and technologists will begin work at Eyebeam’s state-of-the-art new media design and fabrication labs in the areas of programming for urban gaming, activism and technoscience, sound / video installation, technology and the body, sonic ecology, and contemporary network culture. Patrons, Muses and Professionals

Eyebeam is pleased to present Patrons, Muses and Professionals, a series of sculptures by London-based artist Nick Hornby installed in the Eyebeam Window Gallery. Please join us for an opening reception on Thursday, September 23, 6-8PM. The work will be on view September 23 – October 16, 2010.In Patrons, Muses, and Professionals, Hornby presents three busts derived from eighteenth century portraits on view at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Each work hybridizes three distinct portraits, one individual representing each of the titular archetypes. Hornby models his chosen subjects digitally, overlapping them to create composite virtual objects that reveal shifting aspects of their source material. The results are carved via CNC. The artists casts the final objects by hand with plaster and clay from these industrially-generated positives.
