Kai-Oi Jay Yung’s socially engaged practice splinters sculpture, video, performance; confronting participants with playful multi-sensory interventionist environments that reassess our migratory places and identities. Central to her psycho-socio-political exchange is invaluable cross-pollination with experts in marine biology to physiognomy, forging friendships to extend creative process to more inhabitants and contexts.
From sock as a weapon to address climate change and scant resources (Sock Exchange) to incantation of seer/savant Tarot role to mine the psyche of Marseille’s port flux and individual happiness scale (Tarot De Marseille); Yung’s first collaborative project with Eyebeam as part of the Urban Wilderness Action Center (UWAC) instigates a global urban wilderness campaign to fertilise our uninhabitable concrete spaces.
Upcoming/Recent projects include: Cornerhouse, Bronx River Arts Centre, NYC, Libya with British Council, Happy Stacking, China with Grizedale Arts & Vitamin Creative Space, Istanbul Biennial, La Friche La Belle De Mai, Marseille, Whitechapel Gallery and Tate.
