Kristin Lucas is an artist who explores connections across disciplines and creates work across genres. Born in Iowa, she moved to New York City to attend The Cooper Union School of Art, and later to California’s Silicon Valley to receive an MFA in Art Practice at Stanford University.

Lucas is a 2022–2024 Humanities Institute Faculty Fellow for Digital Futures and Social Justice. She has worked collaboratively with the international working group StoriesXFuture on XR storytelling for positive impact, and recently partnered with Peace Boat US to present climate-focused art at Climate Week NYC. She is a member of Collective Task, an international group of artists and poets who perform and publish together.

Lucas’s augmented, mixed reality, generative animation, web projects, video, installation, and performance works have been presented internationally by museums, galleries and foundations, including: Artists Space, Dia Center for the Arts, New Museum, Onassis Foundation, Pioneer Works, The Museum of Modern Art, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art (New York); Center for Art and Media (Karlsruhe); Foundation for Art and Creative Technology (Liverpool); House of Electronic Arts (Basel); Nam June Paik Art Center (Gyeonggi-do); and at festivals, including: Ars Electronica (Linz), Changwon International Sculpture Biennale (Changwon), BAM Teknopolis, New York Video Festival, WSJ Future of Everything (New York); EarthX and AURORA (Dallas); TIFF (Toronto), Print Screen Festival (Holon), Transmediale Festival (Berlin), Cinekid and World Wide Video Festival (Amsterdam). She has participated in numerous artist residency programs, including: ACC Weimar (Germany); ARCUS (Japan); BAU Institute Summer Arts Residency at Camargo Foundation (Cassis); Yafo Creative/Print Screen Festival Digital Arts Residency (Yafo); AR/VR Artist Research Residency (Portland); Eyebeam Artist Residency, Harvestworks Digital Arts Center Artist Residency, Marie Walsh Sharpe Space Program, Pioneer Works Technology Residency, P.S.1 National Studio Program, SciArt Initiative’s The Bridge Collaborative Residency Program, World Views (New York); Signal Culture, The Experimental Television Center (Owego); Institute for Electronic Arts (Alfred); and Harvard University Office of the Arts (Cambridge). She is the recipient of numerous awards and grants including: Andrea Frank Foundation Grant, Edith Russ Site for Media Art Stipend, Engadget Alternate Realities Grant, New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, New York State Council on the Arts Individual Artist Grant, Rema Hort Mann Foundation Grant, and Rhizome Commissions, among others. Her videos are distributed by Electronic Arts Intermix (New York); her immersive work is featured on RadianceVR International Research Platform, and her broader body of work is represented by And/Or Gallery (Pasadena) and Postmasters Gallery (New York).
