Christopher Robbins will explore some of the techniques he has encountered creating action- and collaboration- based works over the past ten years. Techniques we will cover include community mapping, transect walks, and other techniques for getting a foothold in new communities.
This workshop will focus on PRA techniques—also known as Participatory Rapid Appraisal / Participatory Learning & Action / Action Research—ways of exploring a community from the varied perspectives of the people in that community, without having to rely on the “Official” perspectives put forth by those who already have a voice.
After Christopher Robbins runs a more traditional paper and pencil action research workshop on July 7 at Eyebeam; Chris Blow of Ushahidi will join WPA 2010 on July 16 as we will hit the streets with the reconstruct crew, 8 google android phones, and the Usahidi platform to collect site data for possible WPA projects in Jamaica, Queens.
Faciliated by Christopher Robbins, WPA; Chris Blow, Ushahidi
