Street Memes is a new Eyebeam R&D project designed to track the spread of street art. We are focusing entirely on memetic street art, meaning designs that can spread virally across a city and around the world: stickers, posters, stencils, or any other public medium that can be reproduced multiple times. Check out the gallery to track your favorite street art.
We need your help with our Beta test. Grab a digital camera, go for a weekend stroll in your neigborhood, and submit your photos. You can also send images directly from your camera phone by following these instructions. Feel free to contribute purely asethetic work or the political street art that is increasingly relevant in the current climate.
All the images submitted to Street Memes become part of a public database governed by a Creative Commons NonCommercial-ShareAlike licence, so your participation helps enrich the public domain.
This site took way too long to launch, so we are happy it is finally available to the public. Street Memes is curated by Ryan Watkin-Hughes of Relapsed.net and various people have helped realize the project. As we get more images we will continue to explore techniques for sorting, classifing, and geo-coding the memes.
