Eyebeam has a rich history of supporting creative technologists with a focus on production that emphasizes public iteration and open process. Open Studios is a chance to engage with the artists and creative technologists working here. Visitors are invited to explore our shared studio spaces and R&D lab as well as join in a guided tour by an Eyebeam fellow every hour, on the hour, where you will meet Eyebeam’s most valuable resource: its community of visionary creators.

Eyebeam is pleased to host Open Studios in our state-of-the-art design, research, and fabrication shared workspaces; showcasing video art, ethnographic database research, open/linked data systems, code and humor, and hardware design for artists.

Uncommon Ground is a sound installation created in collaboration by Steve Lambert and Victoria Estok. Using stethoscopes against a five by five foot planter box, people can hear the plants commentary, discussions, and inner thoughts – which are normally inaudible to human beings.
The plants are voiced by comedians and neighbors, including; Reggie Watts, James Bewley, Cathleen Carr, Maria Del Piano, Courtney Robinson, Jonathan Shahn, Steve Trevelise, Kenya Robinson, Stefanie Connell, Maya Connell, and Larry Bogad.
Security Patterns is a studio visit installation of recent laser cut work. These sculptures and drawings are made from old books laser cut with poignant words, and drawings made from industrial patterns, all of which explore transformations in technology and their relationships to evolutions (or devolutions) in economies. Some choice examples include: two display bookshelves with an ever growing collection of 130+ investment guide books and get-rich-quick books (e.g. "Weath is a Choice" or "Investing by the Stars") all laser engraved with the logos of failed FDIC Insured banks, A shrink wrapped bundle of 12 Yellow Pages that have been cut all the way through with the phrase "GOOGLE" and a dictionary with the phrase "OMG LOL" cut from its pages.
